OUCH! A few $1000 LATER! A Marketing ERROR

So, you just were SO busy that you could barely take care of getting this order out...but it's done!
You have successfully selected the calendar for next year...

What kind of time did you put in?

  • Selection-you hemmed and hawed on the perfect choice
  • Pricing-you went back and forth on which one worked for your budget and good looks
  • You gathered your mailing lists together
  • Fine tuned the neighborhoods you would send it to
  • Totaled up the postage and envelope costs
  • Ponied up a few thousand dollars on your credit card
  • Hit the send button

Done.

Well, there is one more thing. When the company sending you the proof, tells you to sign off on the proof...
did you really even look at it?

We received this great looking calender in the mail the other day:

marketing mistake

Not one piece of agent identification on the front, on the back or on the inside...
I'm sick for the agent, as I could have done this myself...however:

Each month had been scripted and reads as follows-mind you-no contact information:

January: Please refer me to family and friends
(I like the lack of branding on it, as I will be using this at my desk. I would certainly get sick of my competitor's face in my face all day.)

February: Please call me if you know of anyone planning to move in or out of the area.
(I had forgotten all these quippy little sayings from Real Estate 101)

March: Thinking about moving to a different home or neighborhood?? Call me...I know the market!
( It's important to always include a call to action...and a phone number)

April: Before you enter the real estate maze...call me, I'll help you make all the right turns
( It will be amazing if anyone saved their return envelope-it had branding:)

May: Please call me for an evaluation of your home or property
(Or drive by my office, you remember who I am and where my office is, right?)

June: It takes more that luck to play the real estate game. I have the knowledge and experience to win!
(I know I can sell a house, I just have trouble with small details, my own money and marketing)

July: Trust your home in the hands of a seasoned professional. I get results...quickly!

(I can be trusted with marketing your home, just not good at marketing myself)

August: I specialize in your neighborhood. Please give me a call

(I'm the person who sends you real estate stuff every month with no contact info on it)

September: It is time to call me for your 2011 Calendar or refill

( This one assured me that I spelled calendar correctly.)

October: Wishing you all the joys of the fall season. Don't forget to call me for your year 2011 calendar

(Whether you can find me or not...I will be sending you another calendar for next year)

November: Don't forget to call me for your year 2011 calendar

(I am begging you to call me...remember me...the good guy that sent you a free calendar..with no branding on it to irritate you?)

December:Wishing you a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!

(I hope you received your 2011 calendar...it's been a great working relationship so far, hasn't it?)

A word to the wise...check before you check off! And if your assistant did this for you...what did you do to make them mad?!!!!!
